In my search to learn more about Joyce Stanton, I have continuously met the same roadblocks time and again: "Missing", "No Further Information Available" or simply "Unknown". Emails requesting information about her have not yielded any assistance as of yet. For now, she remains an enigma.
What I have managed to learn is that Joyce was of Guyanese descent and may have had a relative by the name of Patricia Stanton, who also perished with her at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001. Information about Patricia Stanton has also proved to be equally challenging.
There are many things we can safely assume about this mysterious lady. She was someone's daughter and perhaps someone's wife and someone's mother. She was someone's friend and she is missed.
You may have passed her on a crowded sidewalk everyday or shared an elevator with her in silence. She may once have sat near you at your favorite restaurant or took your order at Windows On The World. Like all of us on that Tuesday morning 5 years ago, she breathed in the crisp Autumn air and marveled at the deep blue sky if only for a moment.
Joyce Stanton's past, like the future that was taken from her, remains one of endless possibility.
I will never forget her.
